CEDAR RAPIDS – The Granny Basketball League and its members are preparing to strap on and take to the court for the 18th year of six-on-six basketball.

League action will kick off with the 15th Annual Granny Basketball Jamboree, to be held at Trinity Lutheran School, 1371 Seventh Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, Saturdays, beginning at 9 a.m. and lasting approximately 3 p.m. Teams in the league’s footprint will come together to compete with each other, their field style blending with the game and rules of yesteryear. A colorful adaptation of 1920s uniforms puts the finishing touches on this game.

This event is open to the public, with admission of a voluntary donation to the Meals on Wheels program administered by Horizons, A Family Service Alliance, and delivery of hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors in Cedar Rapids and the surroundings. Please note that since attendees are at increased risk of COVID-19, all attendees are requested to wear a face mask.

In case of bad weather, the Jamboree will be postponed to March 12.

The Granny Basketball League, a non-profit organization, provides women 50 and older with a healthy exercise option combined with charitable donations and enthusiastic competition in eight central United States.
