Reggie Miller’s sister Cheryl Miller
The eldest daughter of Saul and Carrie Miller, Cheryl D. Miller set an example in athletics for her younger brothers from an early age.
The legend was born in Riverside, California. From a young age, Cheryl dominated the court. She led Riverside Polytechnic High School at a 132-4 registration, posting ridiculous numbers along the way. Miller joined the University of Southern California women’s basketball team in 1982 and started all four seasons.
Miller revolutionized women’s basketball. Her electric play, work ethic and marksmanship brought national attention to women’s sport for the first time. Miller recorded the first dunk in a female game, inspiring future dunkers like Lisa Leslie and Brittany Griner. Her dominant piece was an awards magnet.
Miller won two NCAA tournaments (plus two MVPs), gold at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, gold at the first Moscow Goodwill Games in 1986, gold at the 1986 FIBA World Championships, four All-American nominations and three Naismith College Player of the Year awards during his four-year college career. The United States Basketball League (USBL) tried to recruit Miller after his college career. It is worth noting the The USBL is a men’s league.
She immediately joined the USC coaching staff as an assistant when a knee injury ended her playing career in 1986. She returned to the role of head coach five years later. She trained her Trojans in several NCAA tournaments before moving to the WNBA in 1997. The women’s league had only been founded the previous year, in part because of Cheryl’s legacy.

Cheryl Miller is a heroine in the field, if only an unsung heroine. Many basketball fans don’t know Cheryl. This is due to the fame of his well-known little brother, Reggie.
Reggie Miller’s NBA career
RELATED: Reggie Miller became a father again at 55
Reginald Wayne Miller is a former professional basketball player and current Hall of Fame member. He is known to have killed the New York Knicks, made the three points cool and scored eight points in nine seconds (again, sorry Knicks).
Reggie played his high school career at Riverside Polytech, as did his sister. Unlike Cheryl, he chose the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) over USC. He ended his college career as the second-highest goalscorer in UCLA history behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
In the National Basketball Association, Miller has played his entire career with the Indiana Pacers. Between 1987 and his retirement in 2005, Miller attended an NBA Finals, formed five All-Star teams, and was named All-NBA three times.
Miller always wanted to beat the best player in the world, but he could never even beat the best player in his house.
Reggie Miller won an Olympic gold medal. Cheryl was a presenter at the 96 Atlanta Games, where Reggie won gold. Miller entered the booth after his NBA career. Working for TNT and ESPN, Miller has always been a step behind his older sister.
Who was better: Reggie or Cheryl?
Reggie Miller is renowned for his competitiveness. her older sister Cheryl may have played a part into it.
She taught him everything he knows about basketball by consistently beating young Reggie when they were kids. Cheryl’s dominance made Reggie Miller better.
In a high school game, he scored over 40 points. Proud of his accomplishments, he bragged to Cheryl about his record upon his return home. Cheryl also had a game that night, so Reggie asked her how many points she had scored, seeking to rub her stats in her face. Reggie ate her hot hand when Cheryl announced she scored 105 points that night (in one part).
Cheryl Miller has two NCAA Championships. Reggie Miller doesn’t. Cheryl has three Naismith Awards. Reggie, zero. Cheryl is considered the Michael Jordan of women’s basketball. Reggie could never beat the Michael Jordan of men’s basketball (or the rest of the Chicago Bulls, either). It’s clear who the better Miller is. Don’t ask Reggie.
Reggie, in his own way, recognizes his sister’s greatness as much as anyone. In interviews, he confirms the importance of his mentoring on his career. He blasted his alma mater for not give it a banner big enough, finding a way to promote their city rival (and his old school) the UCLA Bruins along the way.
From brotherly competition to brotherly love, Miller owes his sister a lot. No one knows this better than Cheryl Miller.
