COLUMBIA, Mo. – It’s a soggy scene at Memorial Stadium as rain fell over Columbia all morning ahead of the 3pm season opener against Central Michigan. The latest forecasts point to a drop in the rain around the kickoff with temperatures in the 70s.

• Central Michigan will be permanently without head coach Jim McElwaine, who did not travel with the team from Mt. Pleasant, Mich., After undergoing an appendectomy on Wednesday. Linebackers and assistant head coach Tim Skipper is expected to replace McElwain, while offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kevin Barbay will handle the offense. At the end of the week, CMU was still hoping McElwain could make the trip.

• The points spread remained stable with Mizzou as the 14 point favorite.

• Mizzou’s wide receiver, Mookie Cooper, performs pre-game drills in uniform. He has been listed as questionable until Thursday due to the leg injury he suffered at the start of preschool. If he plays today, it will mark his college debut and his first game since the 2018 high school season at Trinity Catholic in St. Louis.

• Mizzou pays tribute to the 13 American soldiers recently killed in Afghanistan with a sticker on today’s helmets with special gratitude to the late Marines Jared M. Schmitz of Wentzville, Mo. & Daegan William-Tyeler Page, whose father is a former MU.
