Portland High School basketball senior Breckyn Werner has signed to pursue his basketball career at Alma College.
Werner has been a member of the PHS varsity basketball team for four years. She was also a member of the varsity volleyball team for three years.
Asked about her choice of Alma College, Werner said, “I chose Alma because of the community, the coaches and the teammates. They were all so welcoming and kind. It also felt like home. I also know a few people who are already going there and it will be nice to see a familiar face while strolling around campus.
Werner added: “I want to thank everyone who helped me get here and supported me over the years. It means a lot to me and I’m super excited to spend the next four years at Alma.
Jason Haid, PHS varsity girls’ basketball coach, said:I think Breckyn found the perfect person at Alma University. She has improved so much throughout her high school career and I can’t wait to see her succeed at the next level.”
Breckyn is the daughter of Heath and Jennifer Werner.
Located in Alma, MI, Alma College has 1,435 undergraduate students from 24 states and 17 countries. The Scots compete at the NCAA Division III level and are members of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the oldest collegiate conference in the United States.
