NEW ORLEANS (AP) – The New Orleans Saints have decided to continue training at the TCU next week in preparation for their Week 3 game in New England before returning to their New England headquarters -Orléans in Week 4, when they host the New York Giants. in the Superdome, coach Sean Payton said on Friday.
The Saints have been relocated to the Dallas area since August 28, when they conducted hastily organized charter flights as Hurricane Ida approached the Louisiana coast as a powerful Category 4 hurricane which ultimately caused extensive damage to homes and cut off power to all of New Orleans. region for days.
The Saints had to cancel their last preseason game against Arizona on Aug. 28 and held their final preseason practices at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. They moved the Week 1 workouts to TCU, where coach Sean Payton’s son Connor is a student.
While the Superdome survived the storm relatively unscathed, the Saints’ first home game against Green Bay on September 12 was moved to Jacksonville, Fla. At the time that decision was made, the city could not be sure that it would have adequate hospitality services and assets for an NFL game at a 73,000-seat venue downtown.
There were also uncertainties about the available Superdome staff at the time the decision was made to move the Week 1 game against the Packers, which the Saints nonetheless won 38-3.
New Orleans then returned to the Dallas area to prepare for their Week 2 game against Carolina this Sunday.
