MV Rec Basketball League Matches

RUMFORD – Week 3 of the MV Rec Basketball League saw some close and competitive games. Horace Mann Insurance had a bye.

In the opener, Hotel Rumford (2-0) was quick to take a double-digit lead and beat Jay (0-2) 73-44. The hotel was led by Tom Danylik with 20 points, followed by the venerable Scot New with 17 (3 threes) and 40-something Eric Canwell with 12. Jay was led by Jake Turner with 16 and Dan Kuklinski with 12 points.

In game two, Dixfield’s Smart Care (3-0) and Mexico’s Archies (2-1) fell to the wire, with the former earning a 78-76 victory while closing a 10-point deficit behind. The winning team was led by Blake Rothwell, who also hit the winning shot, with 26 points, Cody St. Germain added 19 and Ben Holmes another 14. Archies had 26 points from Eric Berry, 20 (4 threes) from Owen Jones,

In the final game of the day, Wilton/Farmington’s Cannatopia Runners (1-2) claimed their first league victory, stifling The Thunder of Rumford (0-3), 76-68. The game was home and away throughout, but the winners established a small lead in the closing minutes. The runners were led by Hunter Meeks with 24 points, Eric Gimelli 14 and Michael Black 11. The Thunder were led by Will Bean with 16 points, Keegan Davis and Dravin Finnegan with 13 each and Parker Davis with 12.
