It’s been a busy week of announcements for Xavier’s men’s basketball program.
Departures and return plans highlighted every day this week.
Jack Nunge added his name to the list of returning players next season in a social media post on Thursday.
“Due to the recent coaching change, I wanted to let you know that I will be returning next season,” read Nunge’s post. “I’m thrilled with the plans Coach Miller has for the program. There are still things to be done.”
Nunge, who traded to Xavier last offseason from Iowa, was arguably the Musketeers’ best player in 2021-22.
Nunge led Xavier in scoring (13.4) and rebounding (7.4), and he was the only Musketeer named to the All-Big East team with an honorable mention.
Nunge, who still has two years of college eligibility, announced his return hours after it was reported that Xavier’s assistant coach Dante Jackson will also stay with the Musketeers, and a day after that Colby Jones and KyKy Tandy announced on social media that they are also returning to Xavier next season.

Also this week, associate head coach Jonas Hayes accepted the head coaching job at Georgia State, and Dwon Odom, who announced his intention to transfer from Xavier on Monday, signed on Thursday to play for Hayes at Georgia State.
Things are slowly starting to fall into place for new head coach Sean Miller. Keeping Jackson on staff and securing commitments from Nunge and Jones — two potential starters next season — is building positive momentum for the offseason.
Miller still needs to complete the rest of his coaching staff and better understand where his roster stands, as this will impact what Xavier needs to focus on in the transfer portal.
On Thursday night, the only players who have publicly announced they will stay at Xavier are Nunge, Jones, Tandy and incoming freshmen Kam Craft and Desmond Claude.
Odom is gone. Zach Freemantle, Adam Kunkel, Jerome Hunter, Ben Stanley, Cesare Edwards, Dieonte Miles and Elijah Tucker are the last fellows on Xavier’s list who remain eligible.
Without Odom, Xavier’s only real point guard on the list is Claude, who will be a freshman. The Musketeers will likely be looking for a proven point guard in the transfer portal. The rest of Xavier’s needs will depend entirely on who else decides to leave or return.
