Four-star athlete from Orlando, Florida Boone JaCorey Thomas has seen its action increase in recent weeks. After landing an offer from Florida late last month, Thomas received an offer from Georgia on Friday.
The SEC’s new interest prompted Thomas to rethink his recruiting a bit. This is why he will no longer be making a scheduled official visit to the state of Iowa this weekend and instead focus his attention on the Gators and Bulldogs in addition to schools like FSU and Miami.
With Thomas in the process of increasing recruiting tips in some of the best college football programs, the 247Sports team thought it would be a good time to add a scout report to Thomas’ profile. It can be read below.
Has a rather promising frame with extra length in the arms. The body should only continue to mature over the next few years. An uncompromising football player who made an impact in all three phases of the game on Friday night. Made up over 500 total yards of attack and nine touchdowns as a junior playing in the Sunshine State’s top classification. Seen by most college recruiters, however, as a type of built-in security that can cover the slot while still providing race support. Always seems to fly towards the ball and has described himself in the past as a defender who loves – and wants – to hit people. Has experience as a blitzer and is able to quickly sift through traffic to encounter a ball carrier in the hole. Play the pads faster than its test numbers suggest. The back-pedaling and initial reading stages require a bit of work, but have no difficulty changing direction and mirroring routes. Will likely need time to complete and master his craft, but should eventually bring a physical presence to a Power 5 defense. Could settle down safely or become a linebacker on the road. Likely to be a coach’s preferred attitude and mindset.
As for the player comparison, I’ve gone with current Miami safety Amari Carter, who might get a few shots at the Hurricanes linebacker this coming season. He too was a heavy hitter coming out of high school and has longer arms.
Thomas, who ranks 247Sports as the nation’s No.18 athlete in the class of 2022, hhelped Orlando Boone advance to the second round of the Sunshine State 8A Playoffs last fall. He not only totaled 564 yards on offense, but was also credited with 60 tackles, two forced fumbles and one interception in defense.
The 247Sports crystal ball currently holds two predictions for Thomas. Both are in favor of Mike Norvell’s Seminoles.
